Dane Karcher

Dane Karcher truly lives the Salt Life. Like many native Floridians, Capt. Dane has spent nearly every day of his life working and playing hard in the Gulf of Mexico, Atlantic Ocean and the endless fresh and saltwater backcountry of Florida. Dane grew up on an aquatic retreat, hand-built by his mother, father and uncle on Big Coppitt Key. There, he and his siblings speared and netted fish daily, selling their haul to local fish markets and restaurants, while earning the respect of the Keys’ lifelong fishermen and sea hunters. It was here in Key West, and further North in Madeira Beach, where he fortified his passion for the Salt Life. Dane now works daily to preserve the living waters of Florida and the creatures that inhabit them.

Dane is an international freedive spearfishing champion, scuba expert, champion sword fisherman, foil boarder, lobster diver, invasive species hunter, shark whisperer, Gladesman, Florida heritage artist and respected boat captain. He perfected his deep sea fishing skills by extensively fishing the waters of Florida, Hawaii, Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, The Bahamas, as well as the continental east and west coasts. Today, you can find Capt. Dane in Key West, Florida running the best private island sandbar tours with his Walk The Plank Adventures. walktheplankadventures.com

When did you first get involved with Salt Life?
I was invited to join Team Salt Life in 2008 after a prestigious week-long sword fishing tournament off Comanche Cove Marina in St. Augustine.

What is your favorite hobby when you’re not living the Salt Life?
When I'm not running boat tours or spearfishing in Key West, I enjoy spending time in the Everglades with friends hunting alligators, Burmese pythons, bass fishing and continuing my life's goal to discover the mysterious Skunk Ape. I also create hand-drawn Florida heritage ocean scenes on hats and denim, always promoting the Big Coppitt Key dive team (BCK). I also have my own YouTube channel called Walk The Plank Adventures where I explore hidden secrets and gems in Florida each week....

What is your favorite category in the Salt Life line?
Fishing and diving in the Florida Keys can be harsh, with cold seas, intense downpours and storms, brutal sun, heat and wind. Salt Life’s performance clothing and all weather jackets are a must-have on my boat and in my closet, and nothing keeps my cell phone and personals more protected than Salt Life’s well constructed dry bags. Oh, and Salt Life polarized sunglasses are the only thing covering my eyes when I'm not wearing a dive mask.

How would you spend you dream day?
Surfing 20’ glass bonsai pipelines with my friends on the North Shore of Hawaii, Oahu.
