Captain Rob Gorta served eight years in the United States Coast Guard prior to obtaining his Captain’s licensing and starting his own charter service fishing the Gulf of Mexico in 1997. Today, he runs over 200 trips a year out of the St. Petersburg, FL. Captain Rob is known for site casting and stalking redfish in shallow water. He is also an avid Tarpon angler during the warm summer months in Florida.
When did you first get involved with Salt Life? I joined the Salt Life team in 2016.
What is your favorite hobby when you’re not living the Salt Life? I enjoy spending time butterfly gardening. My family and I have raised thousands of Monarchs, Gulf Fritilaries, and Swallowtails over the years....
What is your favorite category in the Salt Life line? I could not do my job without the Salt Life Cortez Sunglasses. I can see fish when others cannot. Salt Life Polarized Sunglasses are one of the most important tools that I use to fish every day.
My next favorite Salt Life category is the SLX uvapor performance gear. Wearing the SLX clothing makes the Florida sun much more bearable.
Is there something on your bucket list that you’d like to accomplish? My dream catch of a lifetime would be a Bluefin Tuna and Swordfish, which I hope to catch in the next couple of years.
