Captain Rick

Captain Rick specializes in run and gun style multiple species fish hunts, with a current record of 11 species in a single 6-hour outing. With professional fishing reaching back to his service as an Ambassador of Chesapeake Bay Conservation, Captain Rick volunteers with several state and local groups geared towards preservation of our fisheries. Captain Rick now calls Myrtle Grove Marina (Port Sulphur, LA) home, and shares his love of the Salt Life (both spin and fly fishing) with clients of all skill levels.

When did you first get involved with Salt Life?
After learning that long sleeved fishing gear was not just a fad (in 2012), I tried several brands and quickly became a proponent of Salt Life. Once family obligation pulled me (kicking and screaming) from chasing Rockfish on the Chesapeake, I headed home to New Orleans, LA with saltwater on the brain. In September of 2020 I was given an opportunity to join the Salt Life Team, and no thought was required. Now I spend over 250 days a year running from the wake and working to “Get’em Out of the Water!”

What is your favorite hobby when you’re not living the Salt Life?
I love being active in general, but my favorite hobby is bowling. I started bowling in 2017 soon after I got married, and it quickly became our “thing” to do together. As is my personality, I dove all the way in and really became a student of the game....

What is your favorite category in the Salt Life line?
My favorite category in the Salt Life line is sunglasses. After a 2018 car accident left me with ongoing migraines, light sensitivity threatened several of my life’s passions. I now fish Salt Life sunglasses 4 to 5 days a week (year-round) and have been able to virtually eliminate squinting and site-fishing glare.

What is your craziest/funniest Salty adventure?
When I was about 8 years old, my Dad and I were fishing the south side of the “Wagon Wheel" in Venice, LA, and leaned into an unbelievable school of Redfish. At that time there weren’t restrictions on Redfish, and many people wouldn’t even eat Redfish. We landed 2 ice-chests full of bull reds (largest I’ve seen by average still to date) and by the end of the run, my forearms cramped up so bad that my Dad had to pry my finger off the rod and straighten my arm by massaging it.
